Clean out your closet for FALL

What to do with your gently worn and memorable clothing, blankets, etc....??? A loved one's wool blanket or sweater that you just can't part with can now be transformed into a beautiful, very functional, oh so fashionable handbag, tote, messenger bag....or pillow??? Not too early to start thinking about the holidays and one of a kind, hand made gifts make the best presents ever!!! Give me a buzz if you are thinking about up cycling something old that is hanging around your attic or closet. Always think twice before you head to the thrift store with your bag of donations.....something could be just waiting to be turned into a wonderful little treasure to carry for many more years to come!!! drop me an email at helenshandbags@rcn.com if you have some ideas for recycling.

Gazebo Lighting

Well, Memorial Day weekend officially marks the beginning of summer for me and has inspired me to get going on the outdoor projects that have been neglected all winter long. First, it was screen porch! My husband with all this time on his hands decides to rip off the vinyl siding on the wall connecting the porch to the house to make the porch feel more like a "room", which then led to painting the wall a beautiful peaceful green, which led me to go fabric shopping for covering the cheap Wal Mart cushions on our porch set....pictures of that will follow as soon as we get the porch set up tomorrow. In the mean time, the outdoor gazebo went up which is where the family meals take place during the summer....which then led to lighting...which is where I run into Liliana...my creative friend who gave me the idea to blog this project. The first trip was to Jo Ann's to collect the wire wreaths, then to Home Depot to find the outdoor string of lights...and chain to connect the wire frames..and an extension cord. Now all I need are some ideas for covering up the cords..I thought pretty ribbons, or flowers or greenery??any ideas anyone? Looks great hanging over the table, can't wait to try it out at night! until next time.

Upcycling Frenzy

Now that my favorite fabric shop has closed, people keep asking me where I get my fabric.....well, the answer probably won't surprise you, but the fact is, I get most all of my inspiration now from the local thrift shops and my closet!! I can't seem to throw anything away, so outdated clothing, even my kids worn out sweat shirts can be customized into a very sporty tote, or look at these beatiful sweater bags....not even felted too much, but with iron on interfacing and fabric support with additional lining, these bags are ready to face the day...and oh so stylish, not to mention one of a kind!!! The beautiful blue plaid number is from a vintage skirt, no less.... what will tomorrow bring??? Only my closet knows for sure....keep sewing and check out my etsy shop and website..thanks for visiting and would love to hear your comments.
